Welcome to My-Greek-Food.com, a showcase of all that is great and good about Greece. This site is a celebration of the Mediterranean lifestyle, covering everything from food and drink to island life and more. It is brought to you by Yiota Giannakopoulou — a Greek native currently living in the United Kingdom —
whose book The Gift of the Greek inspired the creation of this site.

The Goal of My-Greek-Food.com

The goal of the site is not just to post a few recipes or to convince you to buy Yiota’s book. My-Greek-Food.com is as much a project of passion as the book was and an equally large amount of work has gone into creating it.

You can find all of the following on this site:

  • Recipes and Tips: Everything that didn’t make it into the book, as well as a few things that did, can be found here. And thanks to the limitless potential of this virtual space, there is no shortage of recipes, variations, cocktails and more to enjoy.
  • The Best of Greece: We also showcase the best food and drink to hail from the Greek islands, whether it be sweet and spicy spirits like Metaxa, or super-healthy olive oil. We’ll tell you why it’s so popular, why it’s good for you, how great it tastes and where you can find it in Greece, in the US and in the UK.
  • Food Health: As well as nutrition tips and guides to foods like eggs and oil, we also showcase the dark side of nutrition, the things you definitely shouldn’t be eating. In Greece, fresh food is abundant and you’ll have to look far and wide to find someone who doesn’t enjoy tucking into freshly grown produce. We want to take that attitude worldwide, to extol the benefits of eating fresh and to warn you about all of the worrying additives making their way into your food.

The Gift of the Greek

My Greek Food
Packed with 75 recipes from the heart of Greece, this cookbook is a compact, comprehensive guide that serves as an accompaniment to this site. The book focuses on traditional dishes created with healthy ingredients. It’s hearty portions and tasty food, but it’s all good for you and the recipes are easy to follow both for a UK and US audience.

My-Greek-Food doesn’t contain any of the recipes you will find in the book, but we stay on subject and show you some of the stuff that didn’t make it into those pages as well as a host of other great recipes, tips and guides.
